Moving can be an exciting but daunting task. I know, because I am in the middle of it. In between fixing up your house to put in on the market, packing, living in a construction zone, and making arrangements for everything that needs to be done, you can get frustrated, worn out and unable to enjoy the process. So here are the top 10 essential oils for when you are moving. Absolute MUST-HAVES to get you through all of it! (Click the titles to purchase)
Well, this one is a no-brainer. Lavender literally helps for just about everything. From little cuts, scrapes and skin irritations to calming your nerves during closing time. I don’t go anywhere without lavender. On the days that the working crew is hammering away, I use it to calm my and our pet’s nerves. If I am tossing and turning at night because my brain goes 500 miles and hour, I use it for a good night sleep. If I cut my fingers or scrape my skin, I put it on there for soothing comfort. Lavender is an absolute must have for yourself and your pets!
MELALEUCA (TEA TREE):
Yep, gotta have tea tree oil handy for everything skin. Cuts, scrapes, bruises, splinters, you name it, Tea Tree oil helps. I like to combine Melaleuca and Oregano oil in a spray bottle with water to spray in places that can be moist (laundry room, attic, garage). It kills bacteria and is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral and actually kills mold and mildew.
Oh my, packing boxes, cleaning, moving and unpacking can do a number on your muscles. Deep Blue to the rescue at the end of the day! This oil will soothe your sore muscles if you put a few drops in your bath water. You can also apply it directly to the muscles (1:1 with fractionated coconut oil) for a soothing massage. One way I like to use this oil is to apply it under my feet before the day starts. If you do that your feet will be a lot less sore at the end of the day!
My go to essential oil blend to keep my nerves calm. Whether it’s the pressure of fixing up your house, showing your home, closing on your new home or whatever else comes with moving that can get on your last nerve. Diffuser serenity all day, every day. It will keep everyone in the house calm, including your pets. I apply a drop of Serenity on each side of my pillow before I go to sleep every night. This allows my brain to calm down and get a good and restful night sleep.
Now this is a blend that is wonderful to eliminate smells. It purifies the air. After a day of construction in our house and many people walking in and out, I always spray Purify blend throughout. It immediately gets rid of bad smells and make the house smell fresh and clean. This is also a great blend to add 2-3 drops on dryer balls to make your laundry crisp and clean. In our home this blend is also used a lot to clean toilet bowls, the kitchen, sinks and the bathroom!
The KING of all oils cannot be left out of this list! Great for skin cuts, scrapes, bruises, blisters and anything else you can think of. When in doubt: Frankincense! It can kill bacteria and is also a great essential oil to diffuse to calm nerves. I don’t think I ever leave my house without this oil in my bag.
This blend is an absolute must-have when you move. Until you actually move, you really have no idea how much dust you will be encountering. I can tell you: trillions of dust bunnies will be happily hopping all over the place, including your nose and airways. Stuffiness is a very common thing when moving. Breathe blend is your natural solution! Diffuser a few drops throughout the day to keep your airways clear. Or, when things get bad, put one drop in your hand, ribs hands together, cup over your nose and mouth and breathe in deeply.
Besides keeping your airways open and make everything smell fresh, Peppermint is a must-have for 2 major reasons when you move: headaches and bugs. When you go through the whole moving process, stress headaches are inevitable. Peppermint helps a great deal with that. Simply dilute it with fractionated coconut oil (1:4) and rub it over your forehead, in your neck and over your temples. Before you know it your tension headache will be gone. Ants tend to show up as soon as you start messing around in areas they like to hide. They hate Peppermint. So if an invasion of ants comes marching in, simply place some cotton balls with 3-4 drops of Peppermint oil in the places they come in, and they will leave and not return.
Moving can be fun, exciting, daunting and stressful all at the same time. You know what that means? It will compromise your immunity. To keep your body going strong, rub On Guard blend (1:1 with fractionated coconut oil) under your feet every single morning and diffuse throughout the day. This will support your immunity system and keep you healthy throughout the process!
Moving is though and a lot of work. It usually goes hand in hand with all sorts of emotions and all the tasks at hand can be really overwhelming, especially if you also have children to take care of. These natural solutions are great tools to help you through all of it!
